The Postal Service will commemorate the USS Missouri (BB-63), America’s last battleship, with the issuance of a postage stamp in 2019, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of Missouri’s commissioning on June 11, 1944. The stamp art depicts Missouri in the camouflage pattern she wore from her commissioning until a refit in early 1945.

The Missouri earned 11 battle stars and numerous combat awards and citations during her 16 years of active service, which included World War II, the Korean War and Operation Desert Storm. She played a momentous role when she hosted the ceremony marking Japan’s surrender and the end of World War II. She is now a museum ship at Pearl Harbor.

It is really cool to see the Mighty Mo get her just deserts. I got to tour her when she was in Bremerton. We were in overhaul on my first boat at PSNS. She was impressive.

I served as a gunners mate on the USS Iowa BB-61 in 16 inch turret 1 in 1989. It was a dream come true for me since I was fascinated by battleships since I was a very young kid. I managed to tour all 4 Iowa class battleships, the USS North Carolina and the USS Massachusetts. The only two left are the USS Alabama and the USS Texas and my Battleship tour collection will be complete.

The Iowa's were great ships to serve on, it has been 30 years and I still think about my ship at least once a week.

The New Jersey should have had the signing ceremony the only reason Mo got it was because President Truman was from Missouri

Pfft, The Iowa should have had it. She was the lead ship of the class. She served as a Presidential transport when she took President Roosevelt to the conference at Yalta or Tehran. Fun fact the Iowa is the only US Naval ship to have a bathtub, it was installed for FDR to help ease his polio symptoms. Lastly the Iowa has the best nickname, the BIG STICK is more catchy than the Big J hehehehehe
